05. “Your New Love Letter”

Al-salam 'alaykum, Shaikh Muhammed Rahim Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.),

Namaste my Shaikh may the peace of God be upon you. My Shaikh I feel you have confused me with someone else.

I have not asked you to magically cure me of anything, nor am I trying to collect wages to get into the heavens which I know are illusions, like I myself am.

I simply want a clearer understanding of things along the way to God.

While I can understand that as long as I'm the ego the beast is at work and my soul is nailed to the cross of the elements I can't understand why you think I am seeking the kind of guidance that will let me exist away from God and continue to be separated from Him or you.

I had said I understand that I cannot say Al-hamdu lillah or Tawakkul Allah only God can so I should be silent. You said yes.

By this I meant mentally silent, not verbally, and I believe you knew this.

These are the words of Ramana Maharshi(may God's peace be upon him),

"What is, is the Self. It is all pervading. We fill the mind with all sorts of impressions and then say there is no room for the Self in it. If all the false ideas and impressions are swept away and thrown out, what remains is a feeling of fullness, which is the Self. Then there will be no such things as a separate 'I'

Meditation on the Self, which is oneself is the greatest of all meditations. All other meditations are included in this. True silence is really endless speech (awareness). There is no attaining it because it (awareness, consciousness, existence) is always present. All you have to do is remove the coverings that conceal it."

The Self he speaks of is the silence I have spoken of. Awareness. Consciousness. Existence. The soul.

This is the meaning of the kalimah to me. If nothing, but God is, then God is the Self.

I believe I am merely an illusion and I am not so foolish as to say I know and I have realized God.

One with the ego can only believe he is one with God and the idea He is myself. I felt we were on the same page.

Constantly I either try to remind myself God is the doer, that He is and I am not, or I just try to be silent because isn't everything in the silence?

I understand that the silent awareness is always shining like the sun. I have experienced it in dreams and in deep dreamers sleep as well.

I also understand my ego must fully die to experience my true Self. I do dhikr with or without the kalimah in my spine or body, with my breath, and chi my mind is always trying to either be silent, or be on the kalimah to keep me grounded in the self even during thoughts.

Ramana Maharshi also says to hold to the self even during mental activity. I am bringing up the maharshi for 2 reasons.

1. When I had the very first conscious moment of my life, at age 3, I could grasp, I said to myself, "Who am I?", because I truly had forgotten everything. I may have mentioned that to you, but I'm sure you know Ramana Maharshi was always telling people to ask this question.

2. Bawa also said to do this and Michael Green had said Bawa said Ramana Maharshi was a true human being.

Anyway these are my current practices. This is what you want me to stop?

In exchange I'm supposed to say all of these 8 songs in the morning before I get out of bed? They are nice songs, but they're not going through my nerves like with the dhikr. Not as strongly anyway.

Why do you say ?

This confuses me my Shaikh because you are telling me to read things Bawa (may God's peace be upon him) has said at the same time.

Also when you say

That Is,

Before “You Get Out of Bed”,

Intend “God’s Presence”,

And Intend “God’s Intention”,

And “Call Your God” Into Action,

By Saying,

As Now “One”

To call God into my presence truly as I understand it would mean letting myself become aware of His awareness. Realizing that my consciousness is shining and somehow I lost sight of it for a moment with ego. While I can say these songs are good for reminders of the Self if I give up my current practices how can I call Him into my presence. How can I give up being aware of my, His, existence at all?

Also doing the dhikr with the chakras is extremely effective for quieting the mind to focus on the self. While I have no doubt that these lovely songs emit a wonderful vibration I cannot look at this as a good trade. I can't look away from what Bawa has said, especially because you're still showing it to me. Why is it that because Bawa said something it is no longer good for today?

He explained the 99 qualities in the past, but we still try to have the beautiful qualities. What is the difference? Why is using the kalimah with the chi and breath to be discarded? Is this not what Adam, Jesus, Muhammad, and Bawa(may God's peace be upon them all) did? Isn't this the exact same technique Bawa gave to you? Why am I being told to do something else now?

I have heard of Gurus being able to do a lot of things for their disciples. I am afraid I cannot overcome my many vices without kriya/dhikr. It did give me a lot of peace and I'm barely even doing it anymore. I feel if I stop completely at this time it will be a mistake. I realize certain practices can be given up once one gets to a certain place, but I'm not there.

I hope this doesn't come off as mean my Shaikh I still love you, but my ignorance is keeping me from understanding you.

Please forgive me if I offended you and caused you pain or if I have made any mistakes.

Why is using the kalimah with the chi and breath to be discarded?

Why am I being told to do something else now?

I have heard of Gurus being able to do a lot of things for their disciples.
